Since losing his child, Sakuzo, who was renowned as a skilled fisherman, has been drowning himself in alcohol every day. His wife, Teruko, urges Sakuzo, who drinks from early in the morning, to go out fishing, but the argument continues... Feeling guilty, Sakuzo heads to the harbor, where he finds an old jar buried in the sand.
Directed by Daisuke Gotô, Tonari no Hitozuma: Nareta Nioi leans on a strong ensemble — Jun Tomita, Riko Matsui, Riku Sena — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 2011.
