About Tokoroten Girl
Yohei is a large man who works as a town courier. His weakness is his slowness, which his colleague Densuke always makes fun of him for. One day, a young samurai asks him to deliver a letter to the daughter of a tokoroten shop owner on a back street on the outskirts of town. When he arrives, he finds a tokoroten stall, and a young woman named Orin is running the shop all by herself. As Yohei hands the letter to Orin, he is captivated by her lovely body.
Directed by Seiki Watanabe, Tokoroten Girl leans on a strong ensemble — Shinichiro Toyonaga, Rinako Hirasawa, Madoka Arai — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2006.
