Sharon Kane gives an over-the top campy impression of Joan Crawford at her "Mommy Dearest" worst. In this case she is the mother-in-law of the widow of her son who inherited the family wealth and wisely cut "Mommy" out. In an over-long beginning and interludes throughout the video, she plots her revenge. Her make-up is awful (check out the box cover). Her acting is so outrageous that she received the "best actress (gay or bi) in a non-sexual role" at the 2002 Gay VN awards.
Directed by Josh Eliot, Cracked leans on a strong ensemble — Buddy Jones, Herschel Savage, Mack Rollins — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2001.
