The corpse of a shabbily dressed young woman has been discovered in the mud flats of the Thames at low tide. Police assume she's a prostitute, but Dr. Watson suspects something more and goes to his old friend Holmes, now retired and at very loose ends.
Directed by Simon Cellan Jones, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking leans on a strong ensemble — Rupert Everett, Ian Hart, Nicholas Palliser — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about mystery titles of 2004.
