About The Soul of Satan
Miriam Lee is a young woman in New York who works hard for a living. Her life changes when she meets Joe Valdez, a handsome and ruthless gambler. After the couple is married Valdez opens an elegant gambling house and uses Miriam, who is nicknamed "the queen of the night", as bait to attract rich and gambling customers.
Directed by Otis Turner, The Soul of Satan leans on a strong ensemble — Gladys Brockwell, Bertram Grassby, Charles Clary — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1917.
