Kankin inran yûgi

Haruka decides to buy a vacation home to reclaim time with her husband, who is recovering from an injury. When she visits the property to inspect it, she is led by the caretaker to the basement, where she finds an old diary. Inside is a candid account of the experiences of the diary's owner, Utako Maruyama.

Directed by Tetsuya Takehora, Kankin inran yûgi leans on a strong ensemble — Koyuki Amano, Haruka Akina, Mayuko Sasaki — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2013.
