The film was shot in Jerusalem, Nablus, Palestine, and in Alberta. Made prior September 11, the film is a kind of mutant Prairie baroque tale genetically engineered with a neo-Fassbinder sensibility and theatricality.
Directed by Oliver Hockenhull, Beautiful Jew leans on a strong ensemble — Denise Clarke, Andy Curtis, Michael Green — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2003.
