In a certain dilapidated fishing town, Hibari, born and raised, works as a banquet companion. Of course, the customers' main interest is the special service provided after the banquet. Hibari is skilled at entertaining customers and has many regular patrons. Hibari maintains a cheerful demeanor, but her older brother, Akira, a fisherman, has been missing ever since he went out to sea in a storm. Hibari continues to wait alone, believing that her brother will return. And there is Torio, the son of the innkeeper and a chef, who watches Hibari with longing eyes.
Directed by Tetsuya Takehora, Enkai konpanion: Ikenai nôkô settai leans on a strong ensemble — Ageha, Yu Uehara, Riri Kouda — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2008.
