While the Japanese army was plotting to make Manchuria an independent nation for strategic reasons, Kawashima Yoshiko, a beautiful woman disguised as a man, escorted Wanrong Fei, the wife of Emperor Puyi, who was dressed in a cheongsam, out of Tianjin and, while avoiding attacks from pursuers, led her to the hotel where Puyi was staying.
Directed by Shūji Kataoka, Toyomaru Legend: Super Pervert leans on a strong ensemble — Toyomaru, Ryuji Yamamoto, Anri Inoue — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1988.
