Los Nuevos

Los Nuevos was the only feature film directed by Paul Delfín. It was based on a story by the writer and journalist Edgardo Pérez Llina, who published articles on cinema in the Lima newspaper Correo with some consistency during the 1960s. Los Nuevos aimed to offer a chronicle of youthful anxieties at the beginning of the 1970s. All the topics of sexual awakening and "political commitment," of generational rebellion, protest against the "system," and the general "dissent" as the order of the day, were reviewed in an erratic plot, filmed in imperfect black and white.

Directed by Paul Delfín, Los Nuevos leans on a strong ensemble — Eduardo Cesti, Martha Figueroa, Miguel Angel Flores — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1973.
