About Meisjes in Vrijheid
Two young women – a student and a department store clerk – win a trip to the Ardennes. What they don’t know is that a reporter from the newspaper that organized the contest has to accompany them incognito. Disguised as their driver, he is hired by the girls, who do everything they can to charm him. Every scene was filmed in both Dutch and French, but only the three main characters were recast.
Directed by Fritz Kramp, Meisjes in Vrijheid leans on a strong ensemble — Nora Michielsen, Sarina Beeckmans, Karel De Poorter — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1934.
