About Tsuma no itoko: Jôen ni nagasarete
During the height of the bubble economy, Akira Komi was celebrated as a young entrepreneur, but now his occupation is that of a househusband. His job is housework and his hobby is making homemade sake, making him quite unremarkable. His wife, Mitsuko, is a highly successful career woman. One day, while Mitsuko is away on a business trip, Akira Komi chases after an old dream and sets out in a boat with Mitsuko's cousin, Chiriko, towards a southern island.
Directed by Tarō Araki, Tsuma no itoko: Jôen ni nagasarete leans on a strong ensemble — Rinako Hirasawa, Yoko Satomi, Kyoka Aikawa — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2006.
