The story follows Poji (Along Cham), a motorcycle courier who has two children, Firash and Khayla. The children's real names are difficult to pronounce because of Poji's wife, Nieza (Sharifah Sakinah), who is obsessed with novels and a fan of dramas. This is also how Poji met Nieza, who was engrossed in reading a novel in the middle of the road at the time, causing Poji to have an accident. Nieza often behaves quite dramatically in front of her children and husband, influenced by the characters from the novels and dramas she watches. Poji's home cabinet is filled with Nieza's novels. He wants to throw them away but is afraid of angering his wife. One day, Poji secretly reads one of Nieza's novels and unexpectedly, Poji becomes obsessed with continuing to read it, even reading it at his workplace. Poji constantly wonders when his luck will change. He has taken on various side jobs to support his family.
Directed by Amor Rizan, Suamiku Mat Piun leans on a strong ensemble — Along Cham, Sharifah Sakinah, Mark Adam — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2018.
