About Yume o meshimase
Nagisa Harumi had moved to Tokyo dreaming of becoming a revue star, but she couldn’t even land a job as a dancer and ended up working as a theater usher. She had told her boyfriend back home that she had become a star, but unfortunately, he had come to Tokyo to see her in all her glory.
Directed by Yūzō Kawashima, Yume o meshimase leans on a strong ensemble — Yuri Akebono, Emiko Akizuki, Chizuko Ashihara — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1950.
