
Yoshio Kawai is a lowly singer at the Bonbon-za, a third-rate theater in Asakusa. Together with fellow low-ranking actors Tokuri, Kameda, and Hanayama—and centered around Yumi, the beautiful dancer who serves as their mascot—they form a poor but cheerful group of five.
Directed by Hiroshi Mizuno, Warau chikyū ni asa ga kuru leans on a strong ensemble — Katsuko Wakasugi, Teruko Akatsuki, Mantarō Ushio — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about music titles of 1950.
