# Translation The story tells of a naughty and wicked boy named Butak (Buntat) in his village. Without the love and affection of his Mother and Father, Butak's only friend is a gravedigger who gives him much encouragement to live. Deep in his heart, Butak wants to change and repent, but the pressure from the villagers makes him even more mischievous and rebellious. The villagers often complain about everything and every mischief that Butak causes in the village. Until one incident that breaks his heart, Butak becomes sullen and blames himself, then decides to run away from home. The stories about the Hajj pilgrimage that Butak often hears lead him to Penang Port. It occurs to Butak to board a ship to experience it himself. He prostrates before the Kaaba asking forgiveness for his past mistakes and transforms into a better person.
Directed by Sabri Yunus, Butak leans on a strong ensemble — Mohamad Izuan Fitri Zolkepeli, Bohari Ibrahim, Melly Amalin — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2020.
