
Kyoka Odoriba (Alice Hirose), a music teacher diagnosed with terminal breast cancer and given only a year to live, chooses not to undergo treatment and returns to her hometown island in the Seto Inland Sea. While helping out at her grandmother's café, she begins to direct the choir at her alma mater, where she meets Okiharu Shizugawa (Taisei Kido), a mysterious high school student who always has a smile on his face. One day, Kyoka learns that he lost his family in the tsunami, but when she asks Okiharu why he smiles as he tells her about it, he replies that when he was swept away by the tsunami, he lost all emotions except joy, such as "disgust, anger, sadness, fear", and now feels nothing. However, a certain incident causes one of his lost emotions to resurface, and a strange daily life begins as Kyoka, who has only a short time left to live, and Okiharu, who tries to regain his lost emotions.
Directed by Hitoshi Yazaki, 沖晴くんの涙を殺して leans on a strong ensemble — Alice Hirose, Taisei Kido, Shinnosuke Mitsushima — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2026.
