
Ara is raised by her father, Amar, after her mother, Murni, dies in a road accident. Amar loves the late Murni too much. Amar's family begins to think about Ara who is growing up and needs the love and care of a mother. They suggest that Amar remarry. Amar is eventually forced to break his promise and marries Maria, a girl chosen by his parents. He does this for Ara's sake. However, Ara actually disagrees because she does not want to share her father's affection with someone else. Maria now realizes that Ara has become her 'enemy'. But she tries her best to win Ara's heart. After 4 months of marriage, Amar dies. Ara's sorrow is struck once again. Now she is left with her stepmother. However, Ara begins to be touched seeing Maria grieve over her father's death. But Amar's family asks for permission to take care of Ara. Ara is hurt because Maria agrees to place her under the care of her grandparents. Ara feels that Maria truly hates her.
Directed by Feroz Kader, Atas Satu Janji leans on a strong ensemble — Amar Baharin, Sasqia Dahuri, Risteena Munim — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2019.
