GDL

GDL is a Mexican dark comedy-drama film set in Guadalajara. We meet Daniel Lurdez, a young man who, after arriving in the city, ends up in a psychologist’s office. Seeing that he is clearly struggling, she asks him, “Why do you feel like you feel this way?” Daniel begins to tell his story, and through his memories, we experience his first year in Guadalajara: the people he met, his relationships, parties, hopes, disappointments, and failures. Throughout this year, we discover a gigantic, contradictory, and vibrant city; a monster that slowly transforms everyone who arrives. Guadalajara promises opportunities and a new life, but it can also destroy the dreams of those trying to find their place in it. Daniel arrived looking to become someone different. In the end, the city turned him into someone he never imagined he would become. GODS, DEVILS AND LIARS.

Directed by David Lizárraga, GDL leans on a strong ensemble — Virgilio Delgado, Sasha González, Sebastian Aguirre Boëda — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2027.
