About Futago shimai: Inshin tsuki makuri
Hazuki lies in the mortuary of a funeral home, while her spirit stands nearby, gazing curiously at her own lifeless body. Meanwhile, Ishida—a photographer who had been waiting to hear from her—arrives at the funeral home for a promotional shoot. The day before, Hazuki, a nurse, had accepted an invitation to visit the apartment of Yoshizawa, a resident doctor she was interested in. Her twin sister, Satsuki, was busy trying to pick up men via text message with her friend Kei. Hazuki eventually visited Yoshizawa’s apartment, but he slept with her merely as a casual fling.
Directed by Daikei Shimizu, Futago shimai: Inshin tsuki makuri leans on a strong ensemble — Yumiko Anzai, Keiko Minami, Kaoru Yamashina — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2002.
