About Killed the Family and Went to the Movies
A man living with his parents in a low middle-class apartment in Rio de Janeiro coldly stabs them with a razor and then goes to the movies. Marcia, a rich and dissatisfied young woman, takes advantage of a trip from her husband to go to her home in Petrópolis, where she receives a visit from an old friend, Regina.
Directed by Júlio Bressane, Killed the Family and Went to the Movies leans on a strong ensemble — Márcia Rodrigues, Renata Sorrah, Antero de Oliveira — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1969.
