Short Orders

Stan plays a waiter at a crappy restaurant and frankly such fare was better done by Chaplin and others. However, in two cute scenes, the film shines. The first is a Limburger cheese bit that is low-brow but funny. The second is the final scene with dogs following Stan at the end.

Directed by Scott Pembroke, Ralph Ceder, Short Orders leans on a strong ensemble — Stan Laurel, Marie Mosquini, Eddie Baker — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1923.
