A Place to Call Home

Li Ching plays one of three daughters, whose life is turned upside down when she discovers she is adopted. But things get even worse when she goes in search of her real mother. Finally, after almost a double tragedy, she realizes what so many knew all along: There's no place like home.

Directed by Wu Chia-Hsiang, A Place to Call Home leans on a strong ensemble — Li Ching, Margaret Hsing Hui, Fong Yue — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 1970.
