A hapless Prague actor is drafted at the last minute to stand in for the star of Boskovice’s Wild West Show, just to discover that throwing tomahawks at full gallop, surviving saloon can-can dancers, and keeping up with town “cowboys” is far more perilous than it looks on TV. As he stumbles through shoot-outs and broken bones (both of his, no less), he finds himself equally disarmed by the town’s fierce Western spirit, and by the smile of its most captivating beauty.
Directed by Vlastimil Peška, WesternStory leans on a strong ensemble — Petr Vondráček, Pavel Zedníček, Mário Kubec — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about western titles of 2011.
