
In an attempt to spur citizens into taking more productive roles in society, the Japanese government issues death messages, or "ikigami", informing them that they have only 24 hours left to live. The film follows a young man tasked with delivering these messages, as well as the victims.
Directed by Tomoyuki Takimoto, Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit leans on a strong ensemble — Shota Matsuda, Takashi Tsukamoto, Riko Narumi — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2008.
