The near future: Bruno is trying to win back his ex-wife. Under the pressure of her domineering mother and a new (arranged) boyfriend, Jorge, Isabel brings charges of harassment against Bruno. Bruno is trialed and sentenced. A device designed to suffocate him if he gets within 100 meters of Isabel is implanted in his throat. But that doesn’t stop Bruno, he practices holding his breath.
Directed by Pedro Brito, Sem Respirar leans on a strong ensemble — Pedro Brito, Filipe Homem Fonseca, Humberto Santana — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
