About The Scent of Green Papaya
1950s Saigon through the eyes of Mui, a Vietnamese servant girl. At 10 years-old, Mui leaves her village to work for an affluent, troubled family. As she comes of age, Mui finds work in the household of a pianist she has admired since childhood, and finds their relationship growing in complexity.
Directed by Trần Anh Hùng, The Scent of Green Papaya leans on a strong ensemble — Trần Nữ Yên Khê, Man San Lu, Thi Loc Truong — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1993.
