Catherine de Heilbronn

In the Middle Ages, the earl Wetter von Stahl is accused of having bewitched Catherine, the daughter of the blacksmith of Heilbronn. The earl tries to be exonerated by proceeding himself to the interrogation of the young woman, who apparently shows an "unnatural possession".

Directed by Éric Rohmer, Catherine de Heilbronn leans on a strong ensemble — Jean Boissery, Daniel Tarrare, Gérard Falconetti — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about history titles of 1980.
