The "killing," however, is merely a ruse set up to allow army agent Johnny Drum to infiltrate a gang of highway robbers.
Directed by Joseph Kane, The Plunderers leans on a strong ensemble — Rod Cameron, Ilona Massey, Lorna Gray — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about western titles of 1948.
