About Doe Maar the Musical
Doe Maar was a Dutch ska band with punk and reggae influences. Their career ran from 1978 to 1984 and they were one of the most successful pop bands in Dutch history. Doe Maar translates as Go Ahead or Just do it, a phrase mostly used in a deprecatory, sulky manner. Doe Maar De Popmusical, is a Dutch musical produced by V&V Entertainment. It premièred on 28-01-2007 in Tilburg. The show on 11-18-2007 (Theater Castellum) was recorded and aired on 01-01-2008.
Directed by Jos Thie, Doe Maar the Musical leans on a strong ensemble — Lenette van Dongen, Kim-Lian van der Meij, Dorien Haan — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about music titles of 2008.
