Avalon

A Polish-Jewish family comes to the U.S. at the beginning of the twentieth century. There, the family and their children try to make themselves a better future in the so-called promised land.

Directed by Barry Levinson, Avalon leans on a strong ensemble — Armin Mueller-Stahl, Aidan Quinn, Elizabeth Perkins — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1990.
