A portrait of the impact that austerity measures are having on Portuguese families, especially middle-class families, who were accustomed to a comfortable lifestyle, and suddenly everything changed dramatically. This short film reveals the end of the day and night, when all the frustration accumulated by a husband and father is released, causing moments of pure despair that will definitely mark his family. A dark and claustrophobic view inside a hopeless apartment, an apartment that could be yours.
Directed by Rui Pilão, Desespero leans on a strong ensemble — Miguel Rubim, Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues, Avelina Silva — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
