Not even on vacation does building tycoon Harald Rehm (Willy Fritsch) look after his son Nils. He would much rather inspect a building site in the mountains or make out with governess Margret (Josefin Kipper). When Nils runs away and promptly gets stuck in the mountains, Rehm has to show some real fatherly love.
Directed by Alfons Stummer, Wo die alten Wälder rauschen leans on a strong ensemble — Willy Fritsch, Josefin Kipper, Carl Möhner — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1956.
