But the young Antigone, with the help of a foreigner, Tiresias, violates this rule in the name of pietas, undermining the established order.
Directed by Liliana Cavani, The Year of the Cannibals leans on a strong ensemble — Britt Ekland, Pierre Clémenti, Tomas Milian — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1969.
