Ruby Keeler teams with the Nelsons (of TV and radio fame) as the singer in Ozzie's band. The setting is a college campus which is suffering from monetary woes, but somehow Ozzie's band manages to attract enough attention to increase the enrollment and keep the school from having to shut down.
Directed by Edward Dmytryk, Sweetheart of the Campus leans on a strong ensemble — Ruby Keeler, Ozzie Nelson, Harriet Nelson — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about comedy titles of 1941.
