
Postwar Tokyo. Pin and Toku live in the squatter area of Kappanuma. Pin and Toku are avid gamblers. They take in Tsuru, a slightly demented woman who has run away from a geisha house.
Directed by Kaneto Shindō, Ditch leans on a strong ensemble — Nobuko Otowa, Jūkichi Uno, Taiji Tonoyama — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1954.
