La noche del pirata

Dani, a 9 year old boy, has a dog named Pirata; a large black Newfoundland. One day Pirata suffers a fatal accident. Danis life takes a tragic turn, but Pirata returns from the other side as a ghost. The whole family moves to Veracruz City. In Veracruz the family meets Paddy OBrien, the watchman who takes care of the old lighthouse. The boy and the old man form a great friendship, in part because not only is Paddy able to see Pirata, but he teaches Dani to see him.

Directed by Juan Carlos Blanco, La noche del pirata leans on a strong ensemble — Michael Ronda — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about screen titles of 2011.
