About Silence of the Heart
Dhammi is a mischievous schoolgirl, Sugath a shy and introverted boy new in school. Dhammi is immediately attracted to him and they become friends. The friendship eventually develops in to a special relationship, but when Sugath reveals his love for her she shuns him.
Directed by Lester James Peries, Silence of the Heart leans on a strong ensemble — Wickrama Bogoda, Anula Karunathilaka, Wijerathna Warakagoda — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about romance titles of 1969.
