
Teenage cousins Masao and Tamiko fall in love when she comes to his riverside brewery house to take care of his sickly mother. Family objections ensue as Tamiko is older than Masao, and the two cannot marry in peace.
Directed by Katsumi Nishikawa, The Wild Daisy leans on a strong ensemble — Momoe Yamaguchi, Osamu Sakuta, Toru Wakasugi — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1977.
