About Nombarathi Poovu
Padmini who is separated from her husband gets attached to a young orphan girl named Gigi whom she met in a hospital after surviving a fatal bus accident. Due to Gigi's mental health issues, Padmini brings her to Dr. Padmanabhan who after initial apprehension accepts Gigi in his institute for children with special needs. The rest of the film is about what happens to Gigi when Padmini's ex-husband Sethu tries to reconcile with her.
Directed by P. Padmarajan, Nombarathi Poovu leans on a strong ensemble — Madhavi, Sonia Bose Venkat, Mammootty — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1987.
