The bullfighter Marcial Lalanda financed and starred in this film about the rivalry between two bullfighters for the ill-fated love of the same woman. It features scenes of bullfights shot by Enrique Blanco using polychromatic film for the first time in Spain. Considered one of the greatest Spanish silent films.
Directed by Fernando Delgado de Lara, ¡Viva Madrid, que es mi pueblo! leans on a strong ensemble — Carmen Viance, Marcial Lalanda, Celia Escudero — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1928.
