About Asadharan
Asadharan is the story of Jagabandhu, a man who is always eager to help people. He doesn't even think of his well-being in his efforts to do so. The district's magistrate asks him to help him and reveals the corrupt government officials. Jagabandhu falsely declares his death, hoping to get financial help and the support of the people. No one turns up for his funeral, and he is disheartened. He reveals the corrupt people and leaves his district forever.
Directed by Salil Sen, Asadharan leans on a strong ensemble — Uttam Kumar, Arati Bhattacharya, Utpal Dutt — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1977.
