Carefree

Niels, a twenty-year-old boy, comes out of a gas station in the countryside, talking to someone on the phone. He meets a group of boys and girls of the same age, casually rested against cars parked along the road. With music in the background, they chat and drink beers. Niels hangs up and take the road with two of his friends, Sam and Nicole, without suspecting that this last call will completely change his life.

Directed by Louise de Prémonville, Carefree leans on a strong ensemble — Pierre Lottin, Daisy Broom, Chloé Léonil — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 2014.
