Liebe mich bis in den Tod

Doctor Lydia shares a scalpel and a bed with the head of a clinic in Bochum. Until one night the brash steelworker and karate fighter Uwe turns up in the emergency room. She stitches up his wound without anesthetic. A real guy, Uwe, and not such an academic wimp like her fine surgeon. That makes an impression on Lydia, who otherwise only moves in better circles. So she falls in love with the daredevil against her parents' wishes and against the rest of the world.

Directed by Michael Keusch, Liebe mich bis in den Tod leans on a strong ensemble — Christine Neubauer, Claude-Oliver Rudolph, Sabine von Maydell — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1998.
