Yōtarō Misaki finds himself lying on the beach one day. He is picked up by Arashi, who manages a restaurant called Kurage no Shokudō. When asked who he is, the protagonist tells a lie that he lost his memory — but he remembers everything, including the fact that his twin brother died.
Directed by Hiromi Taniguchi, Jellyfish Restaurant leans on a strong ensemble — Goro Kurihara, Masaya Matsukaze, Satomi Korogi — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about animation titles of 2016.
