About The City of Tales
Shahr-e ghesse is perhaps the most popular of all Persian plays, was written in traditional rhythmic style that resulted in a kind of musical drama. Although it seems at first glance to have been written for children, its main audience, it is in fact a parable about contemporary socio political issues.
Directed by Manouchehr Anvar, The City of Tales leans on a strong ensemble — Parvaneh Massoumi, Sina Suzani, Soheil Souzani — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1972.
