About Bahia of All Saints
Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, during the dictatorship of Getúlio Vargas. Outlaw Tonio is involved in a conflict between strikers and the police. His mistress tries to keep him from his companions, but he steals her belongings to help the persecuted. Dissatisfied, she denounces him, compromising him politically.
Directed by Trigueirinho Neto, Bahia of All Saints leans on a strong ensemble — Jurandir Pimentel, Lola Brah, Arassary de Oliveira — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about drama titles of 1961.
