El Señor Manolo

The story of Manolo, an old-fashioned tobacconist who misses Franco's Spain and secretly loves fantasy films. His only son Miguel gets involved in drug traffic to get some quick money for his mother Carolina, who suffers from Alzheimer's. When Miguel is kidnapped by the drug dealers, Manolo and Carolina must go through the streets of the city, armed with a shotgun, looking for him. But Manolo has accidentally eaten an omelette stuffed with all kind of hallucinogenic drugs, so their quest will be a real trip.

Directed by Fernando Osuna Mascaró, El Señor Manolo leans on a strong ensemble — Ramón Merlo, María Kosty, Jorge San José — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.

The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about action titles of 2014.
