About Freckled Max and the Spooks
A parody of Frankensteinian stories. It is a story of a little boy, an orphan who arrives at the Castle of Count Frankenstein - a world inhabited by mysterious and sometimes a bit ridiculous scary creatures. Although each one of them is different, they all share one thing: they feel lonely and they are desperate for a little love and affection.
Directed by Juraj Jakubisko, Freckled Max and the Spooks leans on a strong ensemble — Martin Hrebeň, Gerhard Karzel, Eddie Constantine — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about adventure titles of 1987.
