The film takes place in a small town where the Germans are getting ready to retreat near the end of the war. But a carload of Russian prisoners get people to feed them, then the prisoners overcome their guards and escape. The town people try to save them from the Germans but do not succeed.
Directed by Ljubiša Georgievski, The Price of a Town leans on a strong ensemble — Iurie Darie, Silvia Bădescu, Dragomir Felba — to carry a story that balances spectacle with character.
The film landed with audiences for its craft and performances, and remains one of the most talked-about war titles of 1970.
